If I sow Columbine seeds in a tray indoor, will they germinate, or do they need to be in the cold of winter?
I have a tray of Columbine seeds that I placed outside and covered in a plastic dome. I followed the instructions on the packet, which says I should sow outdoor in a cold frame.
But what if I bring the tray indoor, where there are 65/70 degrees? Will they germinate faster? I have a grow light that I may use to help the germination indoor. Should I use it?
The warmer the better. You should measure the temperature in your "cold frame" 80-85 degrees would be great. If not then select the warmest/sunniest spot. That may mean bringing it in each night to warm up, but you need sun when that first white sprout pops up so it will turn green. Once they are out they need to be in the sun all day. I do not know the weather where you are but you are about a month early where I am. The plants should be kept in the "cold frame" until you are past your last freeze date. You may want to think about building a larger plastic dome if the plants are going to get too large.
